About PMI

Habitat for Humanity

Expanding opportunities for homeownership is PMI’s corporate mission. For over a decade, PMI has supported Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the housing needs of low-income families. Headquartered in Americus, Georgia, with numerous affiliates around the world, Habitat is dedicated to the goal of eliminating poverty housing. Its volunteers build decent, affordable homes for families who invest “sweat equity” in the construction of their homes. Habitat charges no interest on its mortgages and house payments are recycled to pay for additional Habitat builds.

A Cornerstone Partner. As such, PMI participates in many of the organization’s national and community housing activities. PMI funding support, through The PMI Foundation, and employee volunteer support have contributed to more than 150 homes worldwide since 1994.

PMI has supported Habitat builds from coast to coast for over a decade:

  • Raised tens of thousands of dollars for Habitat affiliates throughout the country.
  • One of the first companies to purchase Habitat’s “Linda Mae” bonds (securities backed by no-interest mortgages on Habitat-built homes).
  • Participated in “The Houses the Senate Built” program, a joint initiative that provides for each U.S. Senator to build a house in cooperation with local Habitat affiliates.
  • Participated in Congress Building America, another joint initiative between Habitat and the U.S. Congress.

International support. PMI has also provided volunteers, donations and other support for Habitat builds in Australia, Northern Ireland, Great Britain, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, and Hong Kong.
